About LastMinuteSun
Escape the grey.
Find sunshine for your next weekend trip - in seconds, not tabs.
Why we built this
Generic weather apps tell you it's rainy where you are. Booking platforms tell you where hotels are cheap. Nobody tells you where you'd actually get more sun this weekend, within a reachable trip distance. So we did.
LastMinuteSun scores 2,000+ cities across Europe and North America every day on real meteorological data and ranks them by how much sunshine you'd gain compared to your home city. Pick a place, see the forecast, book it.
How the weather score is calculated
Every score is a weighted blend of three forecast signals for the upcoming Saturday-Sunday window, normalised to a 0-10 scale. A score of 7+ means genuine sunshine; 8.5+ is weekend-flight-worthy.
- Sunshine hours
- Forecast sunshine duration across the Saturday-Sunday window, directly from Open-Meteo's cloud-adjusted sunshine_duration model.
- Temperature
- Daytime max temperature mapped to a comfort curve - 20 to 28 C scores highest; extremes lose points.
- Precipitation probability
- Chance of measurable rain across the weekend, as a straight penalty against a dry baseline.
Update cadence: every city rescored daily at 06:00 UTC against the latest forecast for the upcoming Friday–Sunday window.
Where the data comes from
No black box. Everything is sourced from public or licensed APIs with clear attribution.

What we cover
2,000+ cities across 43 countries - Europe from Iceland to Cyprus, and North America from Vancouver to Miami. Filter by transport mode (car, train, or plane) with realistic travel times, so every result is actually a weekend option.
The team
LastMinuteSun was built by Henk van der Molen - a developer and travel enthusiast in the Netherlands, tired of booking trips into the rain. It started as a weekend side-project and now runs a data pipeline across 2,000+ cities on a daily refresh.
