Spain is Europe's sunshine capital — but not every month is equal everywhere. Here's our data-driven guide to the best times to visit each Spanish region.
Andalusia (South Spain): October–April
Cities: Málaga, Seville, Granada, Córdoba, Marbella
Andalusia is unique: it's actually too hot in peak summer (July–August regularly hits 40°C+). The sweet spot is spring and autumn, when temperatures hover at a perfect 18–25°C with reliable sunshine.
Best weekend months: March, April, October, November
Costa Blanca & Valencia: Year-round, peak March–June
Cities: Alicante, Valencia, Benidorm, Torrevieja
The Costa Blanca claims to have 320+ sunny days per year — and the data backs this up. Even in winter, weekend scores rarely drop below 6/10. Spring is ideal: warm enough to swim, not yet crowded.
Best weekend months: April, May, June, September, October
Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca): May–October
Summer is peak season, but May and June offer excellent weather without the July–August crowds. September and October are golden months: warm sea, fewer tourists.
Best weekend months: May, June, September
Barcelona & Costa Brava: April–October
Barcelona is lovely year-round but can be grey in winter. The sweet spot is late spring through early autumn. June and September are particularly good for beach trips.
Best weekend months: May, June, September, October
Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura): Year-round
The Canaries are Spain's ace card: consistent sunshine and 20°C+ every month of the year. If you want guaranteed sun in January, this is your answer.
Best weekend months: All year — December–February especially good vs. mainland Europe
Madrid: April–June, September–October
Madrid is inland, so summers are brutally hot and winters cold. Spring and autumn are genuinely pleasant, with clear skies and mild temperatures.
Best weekend months: April, May, October
